Content and Style of Work

The main problem that I encountered was time, I didn't realise how time consuming it was to create a comic and do the drawings, part of this was to do with the fact that I'm not brilliant at drawing and it took me quite a while to try and do good drawings.

I have encountered a few small problems while colouring in the comic, I started drawing on the wrong layers and I ended up drawing different colour on different layers, however these aren't major problems.

From doing this comic I have learn that, particularly if you not a great drawer that it's quite time consuming and at time frustrating experience. If I was to do this again I would purt more time in on it, I hadn't realised how time consuming it would be.

I have learnt a bit about comics from doing it, things like that you don't need to colour every little bit of the image in a comic in, some comics would have splashes of colour where it's needed, it will depend on what type of comic you want.

From doing the comics and using photoshop I've learnt a bit more about photoshop such as what layers to use, however I need to improve a bit more at this. I have also become more confident at the things I know how to use such as adding layers, changing the size of my images.

I didn't quite meet the deadline, althought I have a digital comic, it is only black and white, and although you can have black and white comics, I had planned to have it in colour so I will be colouring it in over the summer.

I would have to say that I had a problem with time management as I haven't finished colouring in the comic. If I was to do this again I would definatly create some kind of chart/table which tells me what I've got to do and when, so that I know if I'm on target to finish the comic when it needs to be.

Technical Aspects of Comics Strengths and Areas to Develop

The main program that I used was Photoshop, which I am a bit better at using, however I still have many areas to develop.

To create the comic I had to have different layers for the different aspects. I had to have the layer that all my scenes were on, then I had a another for the drawings, I had another for the colouring and I had another for speech bubbles.

What I need to improve on is knowing which layer to use, I sometimes end up colouring in on the wrong layer, or end up colouring on different layers. This is why labelling the layers is a good thing.

There are also some tools which I have no idea how to use or how to access, such as a tool so that where if you go outside the lines it doesn't matter.
The equipment I had to use iincluded a digital to take photos of my sketeches and drawing and I scanned one of my drawings in. I am fine at using this equipment, perhaps the only thing I need to work on is what quality to set the images to for what I want to do with them. However as you can alter the images in photoshop, this isn't a big problem, it would just be useful to know.

Is The Comic Apropriate for My Intended Audience

I believe that my comic is appropriate for my intended audience which would be families as both cartoons, Scooby-Doo and the Simpsons are appropriate for families. I haven't added anything into the comic that wouldn't be in an average Scooby-Doo or Simpson cartoon, and this is who would read the comic. Fans of Scooby-Doo and the Simpsons.

I didn't change my mind on any of the ideas I originally had, the only thing I changed was making the comic shorter than I had originally intended but this was so I could finish it, if it had been as long as I wanted, well lets just say I wouldn't be writing this.

When thinking about my comic I was heavily influenced by Scooby-Doo and Simpsons, perhaps more so the Simpsons. Although when doing the research I looked at other types of comics, the only comics I'd originally read were Simpsons comics, so because of this I had a little idea about what comics were like, however this has been my my only contact with comics.

However when I say I was influenced by Scooby-Doo and the Simpsons, I mean the TV series not cartoons.

Original Intentions

To start off with I brainstormed all my ideas about my comic such as setting, characters the name of it etc. Below is my brainstorm for my comic.

When I originally planned my ideas I had wanted it to be a bit longer than it was, I wanted them
to catch the ghost of a red indian and then end, but due to to time consstraints I didn't have enough time to do it.

The drawings however were more or less as I thought they would be, it would have been nice if they looked more like the actual characters however as I am not a brilliant drawer I had thought they would look a bit unique. What didn't happen was I had planned to change one thing about Scooby-Doo, I had planned to change the colour of the coller, however what happened was I ended up drawing no dog coller and letting Scooby be a free dog. Below are a couple of original drawings, the left hand one the first scene, the right hand one shows Scooby-Doo with a new coller.

I now have a digital version of my comic which is more or less ready, I just need to finish up the colouring of it to neaten it up which I will do over the summer. Below is one of the finished scenes of my digital comic.

Digital Icons For iPhone

My aim was to do research in images and Icons and then eventually to create my own icons for the Apple Iphone. When I started this work on Icons I started by doing research into current symbols, icons and logos so that I new what makes a good icon. I wrote a bit about each one which got me thinking about colours used, common themes and how to make it memorable and stand out.
As I was designing the Icons for the Apple Iphone I did research into apple and the products they have and the software with their products and I learnt that colour is the key. There products all have different colours which makes them appeal to a wider audience. So as apple products are visual I have had to think about that for my Icons. I did research into rival products to find out what the competition was like, what the graphics on their phones are like, are they visual with the colour used, what features they have and how you could represent that feature e.g. Text message. I found out that Apple is the most visual with the colour it has for it’s products and the Icons on the Iphone.

The Icons I had to produce couldn’t just be any old icons, they had to have a genre and those genres included Horror, War, Fantasy, Sci-fi and Humour. So I did research into this by getting images of the internet that represented those genres so I could pick out the visual theme’s such as horror is dark, sci-fi is quite unusual, comedy a lot of light laughter, war is dirty and fantasy is full of bright colours and impossible scenes. I then applied these visual themes to the 5 concept ideas that I designed below.
